Meet Our Ambassadors

Thinking of taking part in this year's Bring it On Zip & Climb? Meet our CF Ambassadors and see what they had to say about the experience.

Meet Tahlia

Tahlia is 10 and wanted to brave the Zip & Climb to show her support for those like her big brother Stephen (12) who is living with cystic fibrosis. For any normal person, climbing to the top of a bridge that is 72 metres high is nerve-racking! Tahlia was completely fearless and had the best time! Upon landing on shore she said, "wow, that was fun! I can't wait to do it again!"

Tahlia was joined on the climb by her Mum, Christina, who also said she had an amazing time. Christina's favourite part of the experience was "being amongst the magnificent architectural structures, the views of Optus Stadium, Swan River and Zip lining back down at 75km hour, just brilliant."

Meet Anthony

Anthony is an Associate Professor and researcher at the Telethon Kids Institute. Currently, his research has been to investigate the tissue-resident stem cells found in the lung and to examine their role in airway repair, identifying target areas for therapeutic application.

His research also focuses on the role of the airway epithelium in the pathogenesis of a number of respiratory diseases including childhood asthma, cystic fibrosis and lung transplant rejection.

Anthony's work plays a huge role in the development of critical research in association with cystic fibrosis and other respiratory diseases. He is also super keen to get involved in CFWA events and had a blast doing the Zip & Climb at Matagarup Bridge. Anthony mentioned he had a mild fear of heights but managed to completely conquer this fear, getting to the top of the bridge and zipping down effortlessly.

Testimonials

Here are some testimonials from a few of last years participants.

"My husband Gary suffers from Cystic Fibrosis so it was a cause very close to home for us. Once I was registered and got the word out Gary had the opportunity to jump on board and do the climb with me which was fantastic! Being aware of the work CFWA does made it a no brainer to be involved. It was such a fun day! There was a real sense of community and everyone was there for the common cause with the added bonus of being able to climb the Matagarup Bridge, it was such a wonderful experience. I'm signing up again for this year's event - looking forward to the zipline. Tips for first climbers - wear layers, it might seem cold but once you start moving you warm up quickly. It is as safe as houses in there so don't let any fear of heights put you off the experience!" - Jo

"In September 2021 I participated in the first Bring it on Bridge climb for Cystic Fibrosis to help raise funds for CFWA who greatly assist myself while raising my 3 year old with CF. This was one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever done and would absolutely recommend everyone to give it a go. It was exhilarating and so much fun. I am generally afraid of heights, but the climb was nowhere near as frightening or exhausting as I was expecting. You have great guides and are supported and distracted by your family and friends climbing with you, knowing the cause, the accomplishment and the photo opportunities when getting to the top is totally worthwhile."  - Hailee
